Antonio Borghini (* 25. June 1977 in Milan ) is an Italian jazz - bassist .

Live and act

Borghini first played the piano and electric bass. In 1995 he began studying double bass at the Accademia musicale Saint Louis in Rome. In 1996 he continued his education at the Conservatory of Bologna, where he studied jazz with Ares Tavolazzi and attended master classes with Bruce Gertz , Joëlle Léandre , Barre Phillips and the wind player Wolfgang Fuchs .

In 1999 he became a member of the CAL Trio of guitarist Domenico Caliri , with whom he appeared at various jazz festivals. In 200 he joined the Trio Chant of the drummer Cristian Calcagnile (with the pianist Libero Mureddu ). In the same year he founded the trio Memorial Barbeque , which was dedicated to the music of Eric Dolphys and later expanded to a sextet (with Enrico Sartori , Cristian Calcagnile, Domenico Caliri, Edoardo Marraffa and Pasquale Mirra ). He founded another trio with Luca Venitucci and Cristiano De Fabritiis .

Since 2003 Borghini has been the bassist of the Open Quartet of the singer Cristina Zavalloni , with whom he a. a. performed at festivals in Meran, Bologna, Utrecht, Moers and Bari. With the sextet Dilemma of the American cellist Tristan Honsinger he went on a European tour. With the singer Cristina Vetrone , the formation performed at the Konfrontationen festival in Nickelsdorf, Austria. Since then he has worked with Honsinger in a duo and a string quartet formation with the pianist Fabrizio Puglisi .

In 2004 he performed with Stefano Bollani and Hamid Drake, among others . In 2005 he founded the Domino quartet with Sean Bergin , Gianluca Petrella and Hamid Drake, whose performance in the RAI auditorium in Rome produced a live album. In the same year he became a member of the new quartet Idea by Crista Zavalloni (with Stefano De Bonis and Gabriele Mirabassi ), with whom he performed at Umbria Jazz . In the Museo della Musica in Bologna he accompanied the actor Marco Foschi in the interpretation of Jean Genet's The Tight Dancer .

In 2006 he performed with a trio with Fabrizio Puglisi and Han Bennink and in a quartet with David Murray , Fabrizio Puglisi and Zeno De Rossi .
