Antonio Galli da Bibiena
Antonio Galli da Bibiena (born January 1, 1697 or 1698 or January 16, 1700 in Parma , † January 28, 1774 in Milan or Mantua) was an Italian decorative painter and architect of the late Baroque . He mainly dealt with the scenography and the design of theater buildings .
Life
Antonio Galli da Bibiena was the third son of the architect Ferdinando Galli da Bibiena and brother of Alessandro , Giuseppe and Giovanni Maria the Elder. J. Galli da Bibiena (around 1739–1769). After training in Parma, he worked for his father in Bologna and Fano . From 1721 he moved to Vienna , where he became second theater engineer in 1727. He designed the furnishings for various city palaces and contributed to the expansion of St. Peter's Church . In addition, he created festival decorations and worked on the funeral ceremonies for Charles VI. with and frescoed the dummy dome of the Trinitarian Church in Pressburg .
In 1740 he went back to Italy, where from 1751 to 1753 he rebuilt the burnt-down theater in the Palazzo della Signoria in Siena and furnished it himself. His other well-known theaters include the Teatro Scientifico in the Palazzo del-l'Accademia Virginale in Mantua and the Teatro Comunale in Bologna .
He also designed the theaters in Pistoia and the La Pergola Theater in Florence .
