Antonius Crivelli (* before 1604 in Lugano , † after 1635) was a Ticino sculptor of the Renaissance .

Life

Crivelli has been in Vienna since 1604 . In 1607 he designed the high altar of the parish church Maria Hietzing , which was assigned to Klosterneuburg Abbey . This altar was carved out of wood. This must be emphasized because his later activity is related to stone as a material.

In 1612 Antonius Crivelli received Viennese citizenship .

On April 7, 1615 he bought a small estate in the imperial quarry on Leithaberg from the court merchant Francesco Forno and the imperial master stonemason Giacomo Murato . He became a member of the Kaisersteinbruch Brotherhood and in 1616 trained as a sculptor for the journeyman stonemason Pietro Maderno . Pietro had returned to the quarry after his years of wandering, he was a natural talent and far surpassed his teacher.

Confirmation of the Kaisersteinbrucher quarter drawer in 1617

The craft regulations of 1615, which Emperor Matthias confirmed in 1617, included the quarter shops in Baden in Lower Austria, on the Hungarian side in the imperial quarry.

Crivelli entered the service of Prince Charles I of Liechtenstein in Lednice Castle . This is documented, not to the satisfaction of the prince ... because he has been delaying his work for so long and has not yet started ...

In 1635 he sold his Kaisersteinbrucher property to Maderno.
