The Apfelstädtaue nature reserve between Wechmar and Wandersleben is located in the area of ​​the rural community Drei Gleichen in the district of Gotha in Thuringia . It stretches along the Apfelstädt between Wechmar in the southwest and Wandersleben in the southeast , both districts of Drei Gleichen.

The state road L 1026 runs northwest of the area and the L 2163 to the east. To the south runs the L 2147, the 222.7 hectare nature reserve Röhnberg extends and the 39 hectare Wechmar dam .
