The Apostle Church in the Ovenstädt district of Petershagen is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Ovenstädt. It belongs to the Minden parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

The core of the church building is Romanesque and was changed in the 17th and 18th centuries . Because of its location a few hundred meters from the banks of the Weser , the Ovenstadt church is also known as the " Weserkirche ".

Building history and architecture

Layout

The church was built between 1000 and 1200, expanded in 1772 and renovated in 1987. The first written mention of it comes from the year 1204. It is a three-bay hall church with a west tower . The sacristy , which was built later, borders on the south side of the central and eastern yoke .

The windows are flat-arched , on the north side there are remains of a round-arched window. The entrance on the north side of the tower is also round, the main portal on the north side of the nave has a clover-leaf arch . The sound holes are in two parts with central columns.

The year 1640 is affixed to the south side of the tower, and an inscription above the tower entrance indicates that it was restored in 1772.

Furnishing

The oldest work of art in the church is a Romanesque font in the shape of a chalice. Most of the furnishings , however, are baroque , including the organ front from 1763 and the organ loft from 1724 as well as the pulpit , sound cover and other galleries from 1772.
