Archibald George Blomefield Russell
Archibald George Blomefield Russell , Esq. (Born June 20, 1879 in Wakefield ; † November 30, 1955 ) was a British art historian , genealogist , heraldist and art collector .
Life
Archibald Russell - the fourth son of the chief constable of Yorkshire Theodosius Stuart Russell and his wife Louisa Blomefield, daughter of Reverend Sir Thomas Blomefield - received his education at Eton College and studied at Christ Church College of Oxford University . He then worked as an art critic and art historian as a journalist and emerged as the editor of the works of William Blake .
He made his career as a herald in the College of Arms in London , the British heraldic-genealogical authority: From 1915 to 1922 he was Rouge Croix Pursuivant . On April 21, 1922 he was promoted to the Lancaster Herald (Herald of Lancaster ) and held the office until 1954. On April 5, 1954 he was promoted to Clarenceux King of Arms and remained until his death in the office of this second highest English heraldic king .
He owned a collection of hand drawings . In his later years he was a passionate butterfly collector with a focus on small butterflies and moths in his spare time . He demonstrated the occurrence of Hymenia recurvalis in Great Britain, which can be found mostly in the tropics .
family
Archibald Russell married Janet Frances Kerr († 1962) in 1915. The couple had two sons - John (born November 15, 1916) and Charles (born April 18, 1920). Both died in the war - John on January 31, 1942 in the Battle of Singapore and Charles on February 24, 1945 in Burma .
