Areej Ghazi

Princess Areej Ghazi (born Areej Omar Zawawi, Arabic أريج عمر الزواوي, DMG Arīǧ ʿUmar az-Zawāwī ; * 1967 in Oman ) has belonged to the Jordanian royal family since 1997 through her marriage to the Jordanian prince Ghazi bin Muhammad . Like her husband, she is particularly known for interfaith dialogue. With her academic work as well as with the school she founded, she tries to develop a teaching system that combines religious education with the advantages of a Western-oriented school education.

Life

Areej Ghazi grew up in Oman as the daughter of Minister Omar Zawawi ( Arabic عمر الزواوي) on. She initially completed a teaching degree in Muscat from 1986 to 1988 . In 1990 she began studying education and linguistics at the Roman Catholic Georgetown University , which she graduated with a Masters in 1995 . Later, she went to the University of Arkansas , where in 2006 with the work Synthesis of the Jordanian social studies curriculum and how it meets the needs of advanced learners using grade 8 as a case study the Ph.D. received. She also became known in Arkansas through a series of lectures she gave to universities and schools on Middle Eastern culture . At the World Islamic Sciences and Education University , founded in 2008, a second doctorate followed in 2011 with her dissertation A Teacher's Handbook on How to Integrate the Remembrance of God into Teaching , which is supervised by the President of the University, Abdul-Naser Musa Abul-Basal has been.

After the controversy that arose from the Pope quote from Regensburg , her husband wrote the open letter A common word between you and us , which endeavored to open a constructive dialogue. Areej Ghazi was involved in the development of the letter and is one of the subsequently recorded signatories. Just two days after the publication of this letter, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone sent a reply to Ghazi bin Muhammad, who opened the way to the Catholic-Muslim Forum. In 2008 Areej Ghazi was one of the selected delegation participants of the second seminar of the Catholic-Muslim Forum . Areej Ghazi was also involved in the Islam, Christianity and the Environment conference in September 2010 in Amman . As one of the jurors she gave a speech on the occasion of took place on April 25, 2013 award ceremony of the United Nations launched World Interfaith Harmony Week . In 2013 she was a juror for the Templeton Prize .

She is the founder and director of the School of Life in Amman, which claims to try to combine religious education with a Western-oriented school education. Lessons are taught equally in English and Arabic. One focus is the training in French and the preparation for the DELF exams . In the Jordanian Ministry of Education she heads the commission that develops curricula for social subjects. Together with Abdullah II bin al-Hussein and Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Chalifa , she is a member of the International Advisory Board of King's Academy , a co-educational , English-speaking boarding school in Madaba . She is a senior educational consultant at the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought .
