Tomáš Marcinko (born April 11, 1988 in Poprad , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Oceláři Třinec in the Czech Extraliga since June 2017 .

Career

Tomáš Marcinko began his career as an ice hockey player at HC Košice , for whom he also made his professional debut in the Slovak extra league in 2005 . In the following season he stood parallel for the U20 team and the men's team of the club on the ice and also completed nine games for the HKm Humenné in the second highest Slovak division. With 47 points from 35 games, he was among the top ten scorers in the U20 league and also led the plus / minus rating of the division.

In the 2006 NHL Entry Draft , Marcinko was selected in the fourth round at a total of 115th position by the New York Islanders . The striker then moved to North America and joined the Barrie Colts from the Ontario Hockey League who had drawn him a year earlier in the first round of the CHL Import Draft . Before the 2007/08 season , Marcinko was named team captain of the Colts, making it the first European to take over the captaincy of an OHL team. After finishing the season with 45 points from 48 games as the Colts' third-best scorer, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the New York Islanders.

For the 2008/09 season Marcinko moved to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the Islanders' farm team , in the American Hockey League . In the following four years he was a permanent member of the AHL squad in Bridgeport, but did not make a single appearance in the National Hockey League . In August 2012 he finally moved back to Europe and signed a trial contract with MODO Hockey from the Swedish Elitserien . There he received no place in the squad after four missions, so he returned to HC Košice in the extra league.

Between 2014 and 2016 he played for HC Pardubice in the Czech extra league and completed over 120 games for the club. He was then committed in July 2016 by Kunlun Red Star from the Continental Hockey League and completed over 60 KHL games for the newly founded club from Beijing . In June 2017 he returned to the Czech Republic and signed a contract with HC Oceláři Třinec .

International

Marcinko represented the Slovak selection for the first time at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2004 , where he scored five goals in five games. The attacker was also in Slovakia's squad at the U18 Junior World Championships in 2005 and 2006 . In the following two years he was called up again in the Slovak selection and scored a total of ten points scorer in twelve games at the U20 Junior World Championships in 2007 and 2008 .
