The Arena Skövde is a multi-purpose hall in the Swedish town of Skövde , province County of Västra Götaland , in the west of the country. It is the home ground of the handball clubs IFK Skövde HK (men) and Skövde HF (women). The complex consists of three halls. The capacity of 2,516 visitors (Hall A) is divided into 1,630 seats, 770 standing places and 116 seats in the VIP area.

She was a u. a. Venue for the 2002 European Men's Handball Championship , the women's 2006 European Handball Championship and the World Handball Championship for Men 2011 .

history

In 1971 the indoor swimming pool (Hall C) with a 25-meter lane and a teaching pool was built. The entire facility was renovated in 1996. In 2002, Halls A and B were supplemented with bathrooms for rehabilitation . In August 2007 it was decided to expand the facility. The project called Nya Arena Skövde ( German  New Arena Skövde ) included the construction of wellness facilities , a fitness studio , an adventure pool and a bowling alley with a restaurant, rooms for conferences , trade fairs , exhibitions and celebrations. In 2008 the sports bar, the Actic Gym fitness studio and the new foyer opened. In August 2009, the bowling alley and restaurant called O'Learys was inaugurated. The adventure pool with relaxation area opened in December 2009. The latest technology such as u. a. Solar heating , district heating , heat pump , energy recovery and absorption cooling installed. The budget of the modernization work was 478 million SEK (approximately 43 million euros ). Another expansion of the facility with facilities for concerts and congresses with an attached hotel fell victim to the global financial crisis .
