The former Arklow V-Class is an eight-unit coaster class .
history
The ships were built from 1988 to 1992 at the Hugo Peters shipyard in Wewelsfleth for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping, which used them primarily for the transport of bulk goods in European waters. From the year 2000 the ships were sold.
The Arklow Victor sank in a storm in Biscay in December 1989 . In the accident, the ship's captain was killed. The remaining five crew members were rescued by a helicopter.
The Arklow Valley was converted into a cement freighter in 2006 .
description
The drive of the vessels is carried out by a four-stroke - eight-cylinder - Diesel engine manufacturer's MaK (type: 8M332) with 1,300 kW power . The motor acts on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear . The ships are equipped with a bow thruster . Three diesel generators , each with an output of 88 kW ( apparent output : 110 kVA ) and an emergency and harbor generator with an output of 25 kW (apparent output: 31 kVA) are available for power generation.
The deck superstructures are located in the rear of the ships. The bridge house is separated from the flat deck house and hydraulically adjustable in height. The masts are foldable. The ships are thus able to cross bridges on rivers and canals. In front of the superstructure is the box-shaped cargo space , which is slightly tapered at the front. The cargo area is 58.20 m long, 11.10 m wide and 8.80 m high. The hatch is 56.40 m long, in the front area the room has some under-storage . The ships are equipped with two bulkheads that can be set up in nine positions. The space is closed by nine hatch covers. The hatch covers can be moved on the hatch coaming and stacked on top of one another at the ends of the hatch. To do this, they are lifted with the help of hydraulic rams and another hatch cover is moved under the lifted ones.
