The Arman ( Russian А́рмань ), in the upper reaches Akhtschan ( Russian Ахчан ), Agtschach ( Russian Агчах ) and Artelny ( Russian Артельный ), is a 197 km long tributary of the Sea of Okhotsk in the Magadan Oblast .

River course

The Arman rises in the Kolyma Mountains at about 700  m altitude, 35 km west of the settlement Atka . Initially, the river flows 30 km to the west, before turning to the south-south-west for the rest of the river. From the confluence of the Igandscha at river kilometer 146, the Arman forms an intertwined river with a gravel bed that is up to 800 m wide. On the Magadawen , a left tributary, 2 km above its confluence with the Arman at river kilometer 132 is the settlement of Madaun ( Russian Мада́ун ). The Chassyn , the most important tributary of the Arman, meets the Arman 6 km above the estuary . This finally flows almost 40 km west-northwest of the oblast capital Magadan into the Taui Bay , a wide bay on the north coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. To the west of the estuary is the Arman settlement . The R481 ( Tauisk – Magadan) road crosses the river 2.3 km above the mouth .

Hydrology

The catchment area of the Arman covers an area of 7770 km². From June to September the river is usually flooded. The Arman is usually covered with ice between late October and May.

Fish fauna

Various salmon fish such as silver salmon , Salvelinus malma and Salvelinus leucomaenis as well as grayling use the river for spawning .
