The Chassyn ( Russian Хасы́н ) is a 115 km long left tributary of the Arman in the Magadan Oblast in the Far East of Russia .

River course

The Chassyn rises in the Kolyma Mountains at an altitude of around 800  m , 15 km north of the Karamken settlement . Initially, the river flows 25 km south through the mountains. The trunk road R504 , the so-called Kolymatrasse , follows the course of the river between river kilometers 110 and 70. The Chassyn passes the Karamken settlement. Later the Chassyn turns to the south-south-west and maintains the course up to its mouth. The urban-type settlement Palatka and the settlement Chassyn are located on the river. About 65 km above the mouth, the Nelkandscha meets the river from the north. On the left bank of the river is the urban-type settlement of Stekolny . The Magadan Sokol Airport ( IATA : GDX) located 8 km east of the river course. At river kilometer 37, the Uptar flows into the river on the left. This finally flows 35 km west-northwest of the oblast capital Magadan into the Arman, 6 km above its mouth into the Sea of Okhotsk . The Chassyn forms an interwoven river below the confluence of the Nelkandscha .

Hydrology

The catchment area of the Chassyn covers an area of 3090 km². The mean discharge 67 km above the mouth is 8.77 m³ / s. From June to September the river is usually flooded. In June the Chassyn usually carries the largest amount of water with an average of 33.85 m³ / s. The Chassyn is usually covered with ice between late October and May.

Fish fauna

Various salmon fish such as silver salmon , Salvelinus malma and Salvelinus leucomaenis as well as grayling use the river for spawning .
