Karamken ( Russian Карамке́н ) was a settlement in Magadan Oblast ( Russia ) that has been deserted since 2014.

geography

The urban area is located approximately 75 km in a straight line north-northeast of Oblastverwaltungszentrums Magadan in an area to just 1,400  m uplifting Kolyma on the left bank of the Chassyn .

The area of the former Karamken belongs since 2015 Rajon Chassynski and is located 14 km northeast of the administrative center of Palatka . The settlement is the seat and only locality of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Karamken.

history

The place was created in the 1930s in connection with the construction of the Kolymatrasse .

After a gold and silver ore deposit was discovered nearby in 1964, the construction of an ore enrichment factory began in 1971 above the town. In 1974 Karamken received urban-type settlement status . After the ore deposits were completely exhausted, the company that was building the site was closed in 1995, after which the majority of the residents left the settlement.

Karamken has been a rural settlement again since 2012 after the number of inhabitants calculated from registration data had fallen to 60 at the beginning of 2012. The remaining residents were resettled by 2014, so the liquidation planned since 2006 was carried out.
