Burchala ( Russian Бурхала́ ) is an urban-type settlement in the Magadan Oblast ( Russia ) with 272 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is located about 350 km as the crow flies north of the Magadan Oblast Administrative Center on the left bank of the eponymous river Burchala, which flows into the left Kolyma tributary Debin about 3 km northeast .
Burchala belongs to Jagodninsky Rajon and is located about 30 km northwest of its administrative center Jagodnoye . The settlement is the seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Burchala, among which also the small, 23 km north-westernmost settlement Polevoi.
history
The settlement was founded around 1940 after gold was found in the area. Burchala has had urban-type settlement status since 1956. After mining ceased in the 1990s, most of the residents left the place.

Burchala is on the R504 Kolyma highway , which connects Magadan with Nizhny Bestjach near Yakutsk (previously M56 , number still in use until 2017). A few kilometers north-west of the settlement, the road in the direction of Sussuman crosses the 1009 m high Burchala pass (Burchalinski perewal).
