Economy and Transport

The building company is an opencast mine a good 5 km west of the town in which silver and gold ores are mined. The silver ore reserves are the most significant in all of Russia and among the largest in the world. After a temporary decline during the crisis of the 1990s, today about a third of Russia's silver production (400–500 tons per year) comes from Dukat, as well as up to almost a tonne of gold per year.

Dukat has a road connection to Omsuktschan. This is where the ore enrichment factory is located, which also processes ores from the smaller Lunnoje and Arylach deposits from the surrounding area. From Omsuktschan, which also has an airport, a 600 km long, mostly unpaved route leads to the R504 Kolyma ( M56 ) north of Magadan.
