Armand de Polignac
Armand Jules Marie Heraclius de Chalençon, Duc de Polignac (born January 17, 1771 in Paris , † March 1, 1847 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye ) was a French nobleman and Bavarian prince.
Life
He was the son of the French cavalry officer Jules François Armand de Chalençon, Comte de Polignac (1745-1817) and his wife Gabrielle nee. de Polastron (1749-1793). The future French Prime Minister Jules de Polignac (1780-1847) was one of his siblings.
Because of their proximity to the royal couple, the family fled France in the revolutionary year of 1789 . Armand initially lived with his parents in Koblenz , later, after his mother's death, with his father in Russia . Together with his brother Jules, he took part in the 1804 conspiracy of Georges Cadoudal and Jean-Charles Pichegrus against the First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte . Therefore, the siblings were in prison until 1814. Liberated when Napoleon was overthrown, Armand became a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 1815 , and following his father's death in 1817, Duke of Polignac and Peer of France . Under King Louis XVIII. he acted as adjutant to his brother, the Count of Artois, who ascended the throne in 1824 as Charles X. In 1825 Armand de Polignac became the king's first equerry , and his brother became the king's prime minister in 1829. When Charles X had to go into exile in 1830, Armand de Polignac accompanied him to England and in 1832 to Prague .
Later he lived mostly in Bavaria; King Ludwig I elevated him to the rank of prince of Bavaria in 1838 .
Armand de Polignac was married from 1790 to Freiin Idalie Johana Lina von Neukirchen called von Nievenheim (1775–1862). Both their son Jules Armand Jean Melchior de Polignac (1817–1890) served as Bavarian officers.
