Arndt Simon (born January 14, 1940 in Dresden ) is a German chemist .

Life

Arndt Simon studied chemistry at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he received his doctorate in 1966 (preparative and structural studies on lower niobium halides with Men groups). Five years later he completed his habilitation in inorganic chemistry. From 1974 he was director at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart , and since 1975 he has also been an honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart .

research

Simon's group dealt with metal-metal bonds in main group chemistry. In addition, metal-rich compounds such as aluminides, borides , halides and oxides of transition metals were shown. In particular, the synthesis of suboxides should also be mentioned. Theoretically, these investigations were supported by the presentation of a cluster concept.
