Arne Schaffhausen (* 1977 in Elmshorn ) and Wayan Raabe (* 1979 in Henstedt-Ulzburg ) are two music producers from Hamburg who are known in the international electronic music scene with various projects and live acts . The most successful project is Extrawelt (since 2005 ).

Life and early career

Wayan Raabe

Raabe began a promising DJ career at the age of 14, which he ended in 1997 at the age of 18 out of frustration with the nightlife. He moved from his home village in the Nordheide to Hamburg, where he began to study audio engineering. Shortly thereafter, the musical collaboration with Arne Schaffhausen began.

Arne Schaffhausen

Schaffhausen began his musical career in the Spiralkinda DJ Team in 1993 together with Marco Schmedding, initially mixing DJ sets in the ambient area . They later made music at smaller parties. In 1998 they played a DJ set at VuuV (formerly VooV). As early as 1996 they produced a. a. the track Relax Vortex for the German live act X-Dream and went on their first international tour with the act. With the track they appeared in the same year on a compilation of the Tunnel Records label . Later on, his own productions followed, all of which were incorporated into acid trance and psytrance and appeared on various compilations. In 1997 the first record was released under the name Spiralkind a and Schaffhausen brought out productions for the first time together with Marcus C. Maichel under the name The Delta .

First joint projects

The first joint release under the name Spirallianz appeared in 1999. A year later, the second live act was founded under the name Midimiliz . It marks a change in style for the first time. In 2003 an Electronica / TripHop album was released under the name DownHill in collaboration with Marcus C. Maichel, who was already involved in the project The Delta . A track was also released under the name Der Interpret with the same line-up as The Delta . In 2004 Schaffhausen and its studio moved to Hamburg and The Delta was first dissolved after differences of opinion within the band and later continued by Marcus C. Maichel alone.

Extra world

In 2005 , Raabe and Schaffhausen were contacted by musician / DJ / label owner James Holden . The Extrawelt project was born . The style of music finally stood on its own. The first vinyl single Soopertrack sold over 20,000 units. Numerous publications and international appearances followed. In 2008 the album Schöne neue Extrawelt was released on Sven Väth's label Cocoon Recordings and was voted the best album of the year by the readers of the renowned Groove and Raveline magazines . The LP In Aufruhr , which followed in 2011 , was able to build on these successes. In 2017 the German-French broadcaster Arte is filming a performance which can be seen live at ARTE-Concert and BeAt.tv.

music

The first acts were influenced by techno, trance, psytrance and acid trance. Later productions in the techhouse, minimal and electronic areas were also published. With Extrawelt , the first act was created that cannot be assigned to any common genre.

Both artists have also made remixes for other artists , including Stephan Bodzin , Oliver Huntemann , Alexander Kowalski , Tocadisco and Minilogue .
