In 1909, Max Oscar Arnold founded the “Städtische Mittelschule” in the building of today's Glockenbergschule. The conversion into a "Realschule Bavarian school regulations" followed in 1923 and the nationalization and expansion to the Oberrealschule in 1957.
The current school building in Pestalozzistraße is occupied in 1960. In 1965 the school was renamed “Arnold-Gymnasium” in honor of its founder.
An extension is built between 1980 and 1982. Due to the increasing number of pupils, the school will be expanded again by an extension in the school years 1998/1999 and 2003/2004, with the last extension being renovated at the same time. The picture shows the modern new building "alpha". There is also the old “beta” building and the “gamma” extension.
In July 1998, the school hosted the 42nd Theater Days of the Bavarian grammar schools .
The majority of the students at Arnold Gymnasium today come from Neustadt bei Coburg, Rödental , Sonnefeld and Weidhausen bei Coburg .

Arnold-Gymnasium students take part in exchange programs with France , Poland and America . Usually, larger excursions , such as the traditional expedition tour to the Sahara , take place every year.
