Arnold Picot

Arnold Picot (born December 28, 1944 in Gmunden ; † July 9, 2017 ) was a German economist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bochum in 1964, Arnold Picot began an apprenticeship as a banker at Bankhaus Burkhardt & Co in Essen, which he successfully completed in 1966. From 1966 to 1969 he studied business administration at the University of Munich . At the same time he carried out various practical activities in Paris and London from 1966 to 1967.

From 1970 to 1975 he was a research assistant and DFG habilitation scholarship holder at the Institute for Industrial Research and Corporate Accounting ( Edmund Heinen Chair ) at the University of Munich. He received his doctorate in 1972 on the subject of "Basic questions in experimental organizational research - A scientific and methodological contribution to empirical business administration". His habilitation thesis from 1975 was on "Business Environmental Relations and Environmental Information".

From 1976 to 1984 he held the chair for business administration, in particular corporate management and organization, at the University of Hanover ; In 1980/81 he was visiting professor at Stanford University . In 1984 he accepted the chair for general and industrial business administration at the Technical University of Munich ; In 1988 he became head of the Institute for Information, Organization and Management at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In the 2004/2005 academic year he was Konrad Adenauer visiting professor at Georgetown University , Washington DC

Picot was a member of the board of directors of the Münchner Kreis , a member of the board of trustees of the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation , in various scientific advisory boards, boards and commissions as well as in supervisory and advisory boards in business practice. He was also the (co-) editor of several magazines, series and compilations. His main research interests were fundamental questions of economic theory, organization and corporate management, business informatics , knowledge management and the interactions between new technologies and structures of companies and markets.

Picot has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 1999 . On January 1, 2007, he became secretary of the philosophical-historical class of that institution.

He taught at the Center for Digital Technology and Management in Munich.

He died suddenly and unexpectedly.
