Arnold stack (Stapil) (* 1360 / 1370 in Prussia ; † 31 May 1416 at Schloss Löbau ) was a priest of the Teutonic Order and Bishop of the Diocese of Kulm .

As a diocesan priest , Stapel studied from 1385 to 1388 in Prague , where he also obtained a master's degree. Shortly afterwards he must have entered the Teutonic Order, because from 1392 to 1396 he studied law as a Teutonic Order priest in Bologna .

Representative of his order at the Roman Curia since 1394 , he became pastor of the city parish of Danzig in 1395/96 . Between 1397 and 1402 he was chancellor and chaplain of Grand Master Konrad von Jungingen , and in 1402 he became canon in Kulm. After the order exerted influence, Pope Boniface IX appointed him . on July 26, 1402 to the bishop of Kulm. He was consecrated as a bishop by the Bishop of Pomesania, Johannes Mönch OT and the Kulmer Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Kaldeborn on October 22, 1422 in Kulmsee .

Since March 1404 active as commissioner for the canonization process of Dorothea von Montau , he questioned the witnesses personally in this connection. As confidante of the Grand Master, he took part in the peace negotiations between the Order and the King of Poland in May 1404, which ended with the Peace of Raciazek .

When there was another war between the Teutonic Order and Poland in 1410, he stayed in Thorn together with the Grand Master, now Ulrich von Jungingen , and subordinated his troops to the Order. But when the war was lost, he and the other bishops of Prussia took the oath of homage to the King of Poland near Marienburg in July . This enabled him to spare his diocese the devastation of Polish troops. Shortly afterwards, however, he returned to the side of the Teutonic Order.

After taking part in the negotiations for the Peace of Thorn on behalf of the Grand Master in 1411 , in January he took part in the election of Grand Master Michael Küchmeister , which took place at the Marienburg. In the following years he also took part in various embassies of the Grand Master and acted as guarantor for him.

As a bishop he organized the first documented diocesan synod and issued diocesan statutes . In Löbau he built a new castle as bishop, where he also died of the plague . His grave is unknown.
