Arthur Rehbein

Arthur Rehbein ( pseudonyms : Atz vom Rhyn , Atz vom Rheyn , Rehlauf ; born October 26, 1867 in Remscheid , † February 29, 1952 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and writer .

Life

Arthur Rehbein was the son of an elementary school teacher . After initially working as a businessman , he switched to journalism in 1893 . He was first the editor of a newspaper in Arnstadt / Thuringia and from 1899 editor-in-chief of the Krefelder Generalanzeiger . From 1901 he was based in Cologne , where he worked on the Kölner Tageblatt from 1903 . From 1904 he studied art history and natural sciences at the universities in Bonn , Strasbourg and Halle (Saale) . During his studies he became a member of the gymnastics club Cheruscia Strasbourg and the Polytechnisches Gesangverein , which later became the gymnastics club Hansea Hannover . In 1907 he moved from Cologne to Stuttgart , where he worked for the Württemberger Zeitung . Finally he settled in Berlin , where he was part of the editorial team of the Norddeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung . From their marriage in 1917, the future director Max H. Rehbein emerged as the only son in 1918 .

During the Weimar Republic published Rehbein books that a strong sympathy of the author for the National Socialism show (especially the 1928 appeared Schlageter - Biography For Germany to die ). After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , Rehbein was one of the prominent members of the Reich Association of German Writers, which was brought into line, and in October 1933 he signed the " pledge of loyal allegiance " to the new Chancellor Adolf Hitler .

In addition to his journalistic work, Rehbein was also the author of stories , travelogues , poems and radio plays . He belonged to the Erfurt Academy of Charitable Sciences and was awarded the title of Privy Councilor .

After the end of World War II, Rehbein's writings Für Deutschland in den Tod (Deutsche Verlagsgesellschaft, Berlin 1933) and Junge, open your eyes! Were published in the Soviet occupation zone . from the third edition (Weise, Leipzig 1935, with contributions by Rolf Italiaander ) on the list of literature to be sorted out.
