Since 1995 he has been a university assistant and since 2007 a university lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy at the Catholic Theological University in Linz . In 2013 he was fired from the private university because he “taught philosophy in the same way as at secular universities”. The termination was declared to be legal in the second instance in 2014, as the labor court of the private university, as an institution of the Diocese of Linz, granted the status of a company with tendencies . From 2011 to 2015 Boelderl was a lecturer for philosophy in the cultural studies course at the University of Linz , from 2014 to 2016 research assistant in the FWF-funded research project Topographies of the Body at the University Clinic for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy at the Medical University of Vienna and from 2016 to 2018 Senior Scientist for literary didactics at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Klagenfurt. Since 2018 he has been a research assistant in the FWF-funded research project MUSIL ONLINE - interdiscursive commentary at the Robert Musil Institute for Literary Research / Carinthian Literature Archive, ibid.

Boelderl was General Secretary of the Austrian Society for Philosophy of Religion from 1996 to 2006 and its Vice President from 2008 to 2020. He is Scientific Advisory Board member of the series Linzer Contributions to Art History and Philosophy , member of the editorial board of the RISS. Journal for psychoanalysis and member of the board of trustees of the web portal MUSIL ONLINE. His work focuses on the philosophy of the 20th century and the present, text and literary theory, philosophy and / of psychoanalysis as well as (digital) literature mediation.

In his philosophical work of the 1990s Boelderl leads the systematic interest in hermeneutics- critical positions of the philosophy of the 20th century ( structuralism , poststructuralism , deconstruction ) as well as psychoanalysis with a historical connection of ideas to older, so-called hermetic ones, mediated by the concept of text Traditions of Western thought closely. The ethical implications of this approach, already indicated there, are supplemented in the 2000s by their socio-philosophical and political dimensions and are part of the program in dealing with predominantly phenomenological, but also cultural and social scientific findings (including the psychohistory according to Lloyd deMause and Georges Batailles studies on heterology ) a philosophical natology , which is a critical continuation of relevant approaches such as Hannah Arendt's natality thinking , but also and above all generative phenomenology from the late Edmund Husserl to Eugen Fink and Martin Heidegger , Maurice Merleau-Ponty , Mikel Dufrenne and others. a. up to the "philosophy of life" dimension of deconstruction in Jacques Derrida and Jean-Luc Nancy . Since the 2010s, Boelderl has also been concerned with the theoretical and practical consequences of such philosophical hermetics or natological philosophy for the specific task of teaching literature both in the (university) didactic context and that of the digital humanities , which require a critical re-examination of the ontological status of the Text under digital conditions as well as a conceptual and disciplinary clarification of the relationship between analog and digital human sciences.
