history
On August 12, 1146, Ascherode was first mentioned in a document. Ascherode was the seat of a fortified medieval aristocratic court . The castle site was on the southeast corner of the village, where the remains of the ramparts and the fortified manor can still be seen today . The castle was used to control and secure the formerly important traffic route from Großbodungen via Ammern to Mühlhausen . The church of St. Paul was built in 1615/16 . On March 1, 1951, Ascherode was incorporated into Buhla. 180 inhabitants live in the village today.
Lords of Ascherode
From 1259, members of the noble family von Ascherode appear in documents for the first time with Heinricus senior et Heinricus iunor de Aschazrode . They were tenants of the Counts of Hohnstein and had a fortified manor house or a castle in the village, of which remains can still be seen today. The family probably went out in the 15th century, successors were the Lords of Salza . The coat of arms shows a sloping bar with three roses. Members of the family were:
- Heinrich and Burchard von Ascherode (1233, 1248)
- Hermann of Ascherode (1256)
- Heinricus senior et Heinricus iunor de Aschazrode (1259)
- Heinrich von Ascherode (1355) Knight, Burgmann at Hohnstein Castle
Ascherode manor
The manor was probably built on the remains of the medieval complex and initially belonged to the domain of the County of Hohnstein . The owners changed more frequently from the 17th century, the last owners were the Counts of Stolberg. In addition to agriculture and forestry, the estate also included a brick factory. In 1945 the estate was expropriated and the land was distributed to farmers and new settlers. The manor buildings were then used for various purposes. Around 1980 these were demolished except for a few former stables.
