Großbodungen is a district of the rural community Am Ohmberg in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld . Großbodungen is one of the few places in the Eichsfeld district that does not belong to the historic Eichsfeld .

geography

The place is located in the valley of the Bode , about 30 kilometers from Nordhausen and is surrounded by six other small villages: Neustadt , Wallrode , Kleinbodungen , Werningerode , Epschenrode and Hauröden . The Bode-Nebenbach Hagebach flows through the center of the village .

history

Großbodungen was founded around 842. The settlement already existed at the time of the Salian- Franconian King Henry IV .

In the Middle Ages, an important east-west road passed north of the village and connected the Weser region via Duderstadt with Nordhausen and the southern Harz . This is probably why the town was home to a Germanic nobleman. In 1186 a "Herewardus de Bodungen called Hans" was mentioned, who was a feudal man of the Counts of Lohra . He sat on a castle that was protected by trenches and on a small terrace left the grove Röder Bach from the Ohmgebirge the water of Bode flowing not. The tower, barrel cellar and basement of the entire complex have been preserved from this medieval castle. Together with the later half-timbered structure, it still represents a small manor's castle today. With the "fortress", the street mentioned was controlled at that time. This castle was not destroyed in the Peasants' War.

Großbodungen was first mentioned in a document in 1124. Until 1307 it was part of the County of Lohra , then the County of Honstein , from 1461 an administrative district with the official villages of Hauröden, Wallrode and Kraja. In 1593 the place went to the Counts of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and in 1664 the place received market rights, annually 3 Kram- u. Cattle markets held. The existence of extinguishing in large floors can be proven by a repair receipt for the fire extinguisher from 1719. From 1815 to 1945 the place belonged to Prussia (province of Saxony, administrative district of Erfurt), in 1894 it was the seat of a local court. In 1911 Großbodungen was connected to the railway network ( Bleicherode – Herzberg line ). The architect of the station building was government builder Alois Holtmeyer . In 1912 the new school was inaugurated as a five-class school, and the first kindergarten opened in 1918.

In 1939 30 forced labor from Poland and the Ukraine had to work in the Krause sawmill and for farmers. More than 20 women and men had to do forced labor in Wallrode. In 1961 the school was expanded to become a ten-class polytechnic high school, from 1983 to 1984 a new gymnasium was built and a school extension was built. From then on, pupils from Neustadt, Neubleicherode, Steinrode I and II, Wallrode and Großbodungen were taught in Großbodungen.

In a firefight with the Americans advancing from Bischofferode on April 10, 1945, three young German soldiers were killed on the edge of the forest north of Großbodungen. They were buried in the local cemetery.

On December 1, 2010, Großbodungen was merged with the municipalities of Bischofferode and Neustadt to form the municipality of Am Ohmberg and thus lost its independence.
