Asphyxia was a Belgian thrash metal band from Verviers that was founded in 1987 and split up around 1993.

history

The band was founded in April 1987 by guitarists Yves and Roland Cluckers. A short time later, drummer Da Cardoen joined them. The posts of singer and bassist changed steadily until singer Carlos Ramos and bassist Leo Johanns joined the band in 1988. Shortly thereafter, Roland Cluckers left the band. The group continued to play in four. After the release of the demo Capitol Punishment , Leo Johanns switched from bass to guitar, which brought Calo Faki to the band as the new bass player. On May 26, 1990, the band took part in a festival that also included bands like Cyclone , Patriarch , Tankard , Murphy's Law and Sepultura .

In August 1990 the band reached a contract with Rumble Records . The group went to the Init Sound Studio with producers André Gielen and Jos Kloek to record their debut album Violence First , which was scheduled to be released in December 1990. This was followed by appearances on December 30th in Aalst and on January 5th, 1991 in Leuven with Channel Zero , Cry of Terror and Deadly Intentions. Rumble Records postponed the release date of the album, so that the sound carrier appeared on February 18, 1991 under the name Exit: Reality . At this time, guitarist Leo Johanns left the band. On February 23, 1991, the album was released at a concert in Chaineux , near Verviers . Rising Nation and Chanel Zero appeared as supporting acts. In addition to the songs from Exit: Reality , two new songs and a cover version of Sepulturas Inn Self could be heard. Further appearances followed, including a concert on April 13, 1991 with Cyclone and on April 21 with Cyclone and Anesthesy . On November 9, 1991 the band played in Chaineux with Evil Sinner and Hidden Rage. On December 31st the last concert of the year followed in Ghent again with Evil Sinner.

In 1992 there were problems in the cast; towards the end of the year the band consisted of Da Cardoen, Carlos Ramos and Yves Cluckers as well as guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers and bassist Alain Van Roy. On November 14, 1992 followed another appearance with Cyclone, which was followed by a concert with Cyclone and Chanel Zero on December 26th. With this new line-up, the band recorded a demo and released it in early 1993. On February 6, the band played in Sint-Lievens-Houtem at a concert with bands such as Anesthesy, Channel Zero, Cyclone, Exoto and Lethal Impact. On September 4, 1993, the band played in Tienen with bands such as Brainwave, Paralysis and Typhoon . The last known concert happened on December 4th in Alleur with Decision D , Mambassa BB and Infected . Then the band broke up. Christian Olde Wolbers later joined Fear Factory .

style

The band played classic Thrash Metal, which is based on the music of the San Francisco Bay Area . The band is reminiscent of Slayer .
