Asterix & Obelix celebrate their birthday

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asterix & Obelix celebrate birthday (also known as Asterix & Obelix celebrate birthday - the golden album and Asterix & Obelix celebrate birthday - the golden book , French original title: L'anniversaire d'Astérix et Obélix - Le livre d'or ) is the 34th Volume of the Asterix series and thus the successor to Gaul in danger . It was written by Albert Uderzo on the occasion of the 50th birthday of the series and was published in 2009.

action

At the beginning of the issue it is described what the invincible Gallic village would look like in 1 AD. This would correspond to 50 years after the first comic. Asterix has grandchildren and like Obelix lives in the country during this time. Suddenly the author Albert Uderzo appears and tells Miraculix, Asterix and Obelix that he had the idea to let them age, whereupon Obelix beats the author like a Roman . For this reason, Uderzo lets them return to their original age and time.

In the village, Chief Majestix calls a meeting to give Asterix and Obelix a birthday present. While Methusalix's wife wants to give Asterix and Obelix new clothes and is holding a monologue about it, the postman appears. He brings Obelix a letter from his secret love Falbala. Since Obelix is not able to read, he uses a book of the druid to be able to decipher it, until finally Asterix Falbala's letter simply reads to him. One day later, more mail arrives with congratulations for the two heroes. This time the mail comes from Numerobis, the pyramid builder, and from the pirates Robert, Baba and Dreifuss, whose mostly new ship was regularly destroyed by the two Gauls. Another highlight is the casting show " Gallien sucht den Superbarden" by the otherwise unsuccessful musician Troubadix.

In the meantime, the two friends are visited and given presents by all sorts of characters that they have come across during their numerous adventures. For example, Quadratus, the master builder of the satellite town , who came up with the idea and already the plan to open an Asterix Park . In this context, an act of revenge by Julius Caesar falls , who wants to give the Gauls poisoned wine, which Miraculix can prevent.

The comic ends with a symbolic scene: Asterix and Obelix are at the center of a crowd of well-wishers made up of the previous episodes in the series.

Remarks

Anne Goscinny, daughter of the late René Goscinny , wrote that it was initially a shock for Albert Uderzo when his partner passed away in 1977. At first it was thought that this would be the end of the comic series, until the comic Asterix was published by the Belgians .

The Keuchustus travel guide was published in the Pilote magazine issue 347 and was written by René Goscinny. That is why the cover also says: René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo . This volume also contains the short story ABC-Schütze Obelix , which already exists in the album Asterix chats from school .

The pirate ship that goes down in this album is called Titanix . This is reminiscent of the RMS Titanic, which sank in 1912 . There are also caricatures by Leonardo da Vinci , Eugène Delacroix , Gustave Courbet , Giuseppe Arcimboldo , Édouard Manet , Edvard Munch , Auguste Rodin and Jacques-Louis David . In addition, the comic also contains an Idefix made of sand, which is reminiscent of the Sphinx , as well as images that are reminiscent of a music album by the Beatles , plus a caricature from Michael Jackson's album Thriller .

publication

The volume was published in German in October 2009 by the Ehapa Comic Collection - Egmont Manga & Anime .
