Astrid Schween (* 1964 in New York City ) is an American cellist and university professor.

Schween made her debut as a teenager with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at the Juilliard School , where she won the Juilliard Cello Prize twice. Her teachers were Harvey Shapiro , Leonard Rose , Channing Robins and Ardyth Alten , as well as Bernard Greenhouse , HT Ma , Eugene Moye and, in London, Jacqueline du Pré . She was also a participant in the Marlboro Music Festival and the William Pleeth Cello Master Classes at the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh.

As a member of the Lark Quartet , Schween won several prizes, including the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in London. Schween succeeded Matt Haimovitz as professor of cello at the University of Massachusetts . She also taught at the Hartt School of Music , Mount Holyoke College and the Interlochen Center for the Arts . In 2016 she succeeded Joel Krosnick as a member of the Juilliard String Quartet and became a member of the cello faculty at the Juilliard School. In addition, she continued to perform as a soloist (including with Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto). In 2017 she recorded Gordon Green's Rhapsody for solo cello and electrinoc as well as albums with the Boston Trio and the Juilliard String Quartet . She succeeded Ronald Leonard at the Perelman Music Program .
