Atakent (formerly Susanoğlu ) was a municipality in the district of Silifke in the Turkish province of Mersin . Since a regional reform in 2014, the place is no longer a municipality, but a district of the district town of Silifke.

The place is in the east of the district, about ten kilometers east of Silifke and 65 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Mersin . The coastal road D-400 runs through the village, which connects the entire Turkish south coast from Marmaris in the west to Adana in the east. Besides agriculture, tourism is the small town's main source of income.

The city is located on the site of the ancient Korasion , of which only a few ruins scattered in the local area have survived. At the eastern exit of the village, a road branches off to the north, which leads through the mountain landscape to the Roman ruins of Paslı , Tekkadın and Gökburç and to the temple tomb Mezgit Kalesi . In ancient times it connected Korasion with Olba and Diokaisareia . To the west of the town center, another road leads to Uzuncaburç, the ancient Diolaisareia. You pass the ruins of Karakabaklı , Işıkkale , the Roman villa Rustica Sinekkale , the sinkhole Aşağı Dünya with the remains of settlements and, further on, the complex Barakçıkale and Keşlitürkmenli with another villa. The water-rich valley of Yenibahçe Deresi stretches between the two roads to İmamlı .

Today's Atakent was created in 1989 through the merger of the four villages Kapızlı, Persenti, Sazbaşı and Susanoğlu.
