Atle Hammer (* 11. March 1932 , † 22. October 2017 ) was a Norwegian jazz - trumpet and flugelhorn player and engineer .

Atle Hammer was a veteran of the Norwegian hardbop scene ; in the 1950s he was leading his own sextet called Seven Eleven , with bassist Erik Amundsen playing in it . Hammer later worked with The Modern Quartet , the Kjell Karlsen Orchestra, the Mikkel Flagstad Quintet, Egil Kapstad , the Radiostorbandet formation , as well as with Laila Dalseth , Pepper Adams , George Russell , Bjarne Nerem and James Moody .

In the early 1980s Atle Hammer again led his own quintet with bassist Terje Venaas , pianist Eivin Sannes and drummer Tom Olstad ; then from 1985 to 1989 he worked with the saxophonist Harald Bergersen and the pianist Erling Aksdal . Hammer also played with Thorgeir Stubø , the Per Husby Quintet, the Magni Wentzel Quintet, the band of Harald Gundhus / Ole Jacob Hansen , and with Erling Wicklund . In 1987 he played as a member of the Norwegian Radio Big Band with Bill Holman .

In 1989 Atle Hammer recorded the album Arizona Blue (on Gemini Records , released 1992) with bassist Terje Venaas , drummers Egil Johansen and Egil Kapstad and guest musicians Jon Gordon and Red Holloway .

He died on October 22, 2017.
