Atoms for Peace is an English-American supergroup ; Consists of Thom Yorke ( Radiohead ), Flea ( Red Hot Chili Peppers ) and Nigel Godrich (producer, among others for Radiohead, Travis , REM and Beck ), Joey Waronker (among others REM and Beck) and Mauro Refosco ( Forro in the Dark ). The band was formed in 2009 on the initiative of Thom Yorke as a backing band for his solo tour.

history

The band played their first concert, back then without their own name as a backing band for Thom Yorke, on October 2, 2009 in Los Angeles. On the set list was Yorke's full debut solo album The Eraser followed by several Radiohead B-sides and unreleased songs, some of which later on the Radiohead album The King of Limbs should appear.

At the beginning of 2010 "Atoms for Peace" was announced as the band name, after the band had previously given concerts under the name "????". The band name refers to a speech given by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. A song already bore this name on Yorke's solo album The Eraser .

After it was previously announced that the project, which had started as a live band, would also result in a studio album, the first single Default was released in September 2012 . The debut album Amok was made available as a stream on the band's website on February 18, 2013 and was released on February 25, 2013 on XL Recordings .
