history

Atzelrode was first mentioned in the 13th century. The ending of the place name -rode suggests a clearing settlement . The Wüstefeld residential area was mentioned as early as 1266. Gut "Alte Teich" used to be owned by the von Riedesel family .

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community of Atzelrode was incorporated into the city of Rotenburg an der Fulda.

The Alte Teich estate was sold in the 1980s to an industrialist from Cologne who sold it to the Luckhardt family of Bebra restaurateurs in the 1990s. This in turn sold it to the Rotenburg real estate agent Klaus Kanngiesser in early 2001. He converted it into a residential building. He kept the original charm of the building.
