The Au class is a class of coasters operated by the Erwin Strahlmann shipping company in Brunsbüttel . The 17-unit class was built between 1998 and 2007 at the Slovenské Lodenice shipyard in Komárno , Slovakia . They were designated by the shipyard as the "Rhine" type.

The ships are powered by a diesel engine that acts on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear .
Different engine models were used in the ships of the class. The first three ships were a Deutz - Diesel engine 628 of the type SBV 6 M with 1,500 kW power facilities. For power generation, three MAN - Diesel generators of the type D 2866 E, each with 115 kW power. A Deutz diesel generator of the type F6L912 with an output of 47 kW was installed for port and emergency operations.
All of the following ships were fitted with a MaK main engine of the type 8M20 with an output of 1,520 kW. Either three MAN diesel generators of the type D 2866 E, this time with an output of 130 kW each, or three Sisu diesel generators of the type 620 DSRG are available for power generation. Either a Cummins diesel generator of type 4BT3.9 with 49 kW output or a Sisu diesel generator of type 320 DSG was installed for port and emergency operations .
The ships have an electrically powered bow thruster with 185 kW output.
The deckhouse is aft. The hold is in front of the deckhouse . The dimensions of the cargo space differ slightly in some cases. It is 55.75 m long and 10.20 m wide or 56.55 m long and 10.20 m wide. The height of the room is 8.15 m. The cargo hold of the ships is box-shaped and closed with hydraulically operated folding hatch covers. The ships are equipped with two bulkheads . The tank top can be loaded with 15 t / m 2 , the hatch cover with 1.6 t / m 2 .
The two masts can be folded under bridges.
