The Audi 18/70 hp Type M was an upper class - cars with six-cylinder engine of the Audi Werke AG of Zwickau . The first Audi with a mechanical-hydraulic four-wheel brake was shown at the Berlin Motor Show in autumn 1923 as the successor to the Type K with a four-cylinder engine .
General
In addition to the two prototypes, 228 Type Ms were built between 1925 and 1928. Today there are still three vehicles and a chassis . The successor was the Type R "Imperator" with an eight-cylinder engine, manufactured from 1927 .
Some innovations made in 1923 the Audi 18/70 hp Type M catch the eye of the Berlin Motor Show: the one from aluminum alloy manufactured engine block was designed with a smooth surface; the overhead camshaft was driven by a vertical shaft; for the first time the intake air was filtered; a compressor housed in the gearbox made it easier to inflate the tires.
The vehicle had a front built six-cylinder in-line engine with 4.7 liter displacement , the 70 hp (51 kW) at 2500 min -1 made. The engine had an eight-bearing crankshaft , forced lubrication with an oil cooler and thermostatically controlled water cooling . It drove the rear wheels via a four-speed gearbox with a shift lever in the middle of the car. The car had a leaf-sprung rigid axle at the front and rear . With a price of 22,300 Reichsmarks , the four-door was Pullman - Limousine one of the most expensive cars in the German Reich and brought Audi the bankruptcy very close.
