Audrey Cooper (born December 7, 1964 in Whitburn ) is a British beach volleyball and volleyball player and coach. She took part in the Olympic Games as a player and trainer.

Career hall

As a native of Scotland, Cooper initially played in her home country and was part of the junior national team. She later moved to England. There she played for Hillingdon and then for 18 years for London Malory. Internationally she competed with the English national team .

Career Beach

In 1993 Cooper played her first international beach volleyball tournaments with Amanda Glover . In their first five Open tournaments, Cooper / Glover came in ninth three times in the top ten. Later they also achieved ninth places in the tournaments in Brisbane and Carolina . The other tournaments of the World Tour they finished either in 13th or 17th. 1996 they qualified for the Olympic Games in Atlanta . There they also reached ninth place. In 1997 they had their only appearance on the World Tour in Rio de Janeiro . The following year, a 17th place in Espinho was her best result. In 1999 they took part in the World Cup in Marseille and finished ninth. Her best result on the World Tour this year was 13th in Osaka . At the European Championships in 1999 in Palma they were less successful and came in 17th place. They also achieved this result in three open tournaments in 2000.

Career as a trainer

Cooper has worked as a volleyball coach since the end of her career as a player. In 2007 she became assistant coach of the UK national team . In March 2009, the association appointed her as the successor to Lorne Sawula as head coach. In this role she led the team to the 2012 Olympic Games . In front of their home crowd in London , however, a win against Algeria was not enough for the British to survive the preliminary round. Cooper also took part in the Olympic torch relay . At the end of 2012, the national coach was appointed to the “Coaching Commission” by the FIVB . In the 2012/13 season she also coached the Swiss first division club Sagres Neuchâtel , who played in the CEV Cup internationally and came fourth in the national championship.
