August Bodenstein (born August 1, 1897 in Klosterneuburg ( Lower Austria ); † November 3, 1976 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and restorer .

Life

August Bodenstein received his first lessons from the sculptor Carl Conrad Sweuert . He then studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, the general sculpture school and the master class for sculpture with Josef Müllner . From 1925 to 1927, Bodenstein was a course instructor at the Institute for Economic Development in Vienna's 9th district . From 1927 he took part in the art exhibitions "Local Artist Klosterneuburg" and in the Lower Austrian provincial exhibitions in Tulln and Stockerau , whereby he was each awarded a gold medal.

Bodenstein was a member of the Artists' Association of Austrian Sculptors after 1945. He mainly created large and small sculptures , mosaics , portraits , nudes , sacred works, memorial plaques, plaques and medals . Among other things, he created the Carl Jukel monument in Schönau an der Triesting , as well as portrait memorial stones for the Lower Austrian Governor Johann Steinböck ( Langenlois ) and Agriculture Minister Josef Kraus ( Mistelbach ). On the 25th anniversary of his death, his hometown Klosterneuburg dedicated a memorial exhibition to him.
