August Christian von Witzendorff (born July 27, 1704 in Lübeck ; † May 13, 1763 ibid) was a German lawyer, court judge in the duchy of Saxony-Lauenburg and dean of the cathedral in Lübeck .

Life

August Christian von Witzendorff came from the Lüneburg patrician family von Witzendorff and was a son of the Lübeck cathedral dean Dietrich Wilhelm von Witzendorff . At the age of 7 he received his canon position in 1711, which was previously held by Detlev Christian von Brockdorff (son of Christian von Brockdorff , died July 5, 1711 near Douai ). Like most of the Protestant canons, he studied law.

In 1743 he became a royal British and ducal district administrator of Brunswick-Lüneburg and head captain in Lauenburg. In the same year he was appointed court judge in Ratzeburg and president of the Lauenburg court and chamberlain. On September 3, 1756, the Lübeck cathedral chapter elected him dean.

In 1730 he acquired Thurow, now part of Roggendorf (Mecklenburg) , which at that time belonged to Saxony-Lauenburg. From 1751 he was also master of the Lüneburg estates Kaltenmoor , Hagen (today Neu Hagen ) and Göxe .

On July 2, 1740, he married Elisabeth Sophia Maria von Petersdorff in Lübeck († April 11, 1781 in Lübeck). Her son Adolf Friedrich , born on February 28, 1747, became the last provost of the cathedral in the Lübeck monastery.
