August Ludwig Stockmarr

August Ludwig Stockmarr (born June 20, 1794 in Dessau ; † November 16, 1889 ibid) was Anhalt-Dessau and Prussian lieutenant general and most recently the commander of the Anhalt-Dessau contingent.

Life

His parents were the Anhalt-Dessau forest officer Georg Wilhelm Stockmarr and his wife, a née Riedel.

Military career

He first went to school in Jeßnitz and then to high school in Dessau. Then he joined the 8th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on March 30, 1811 as a musketeer , where he was appointed portepeef ensign on July 10, 1811. On May 10, 1812, he came to the Leib Grenadier Regiment as a second lieutenant . He took part in the Prussian campaign in 1812 and fought in battle near Garossenkrug. During the Wars of Liberation , he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Großgörschen and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He also fought at the Katzbach near Leipzig . Montmirail , but in the battle of Château-Thierry it was taken prisoner of war. Before that he was also in the battles of Freyburg an der Unstrut, Eisenach and Vitry. After his return he was taken over on October 14, 1814 in the Kaiser Alexander Grenadier Regiment . After Napoleon's return from Elba, it was marched to Paris in 1815, but it did not take part in any more fighting, in the same year he was promoted to prime lieutenant on October 7, 1815 . On March 19, 1822 Stockmarr was promoted to captain and company commander . On June 20, 1834, he took his leave as a major in order to enter the service of Anhalt-Dessau.

With his transfer he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 20, 1834 and appointed commander of the Anhalt-Dessau battalion. On July 19, 1840 he was appointed colonel there. The battalion was used in the campaign against Denmark in 1848 in the occupation of the Düppeler Schanzen and the outpost battles that occurred in the process.

On March 30, 1861, he celebrated his 50th anniversary in service and was appointed major general for this purpose, at the same time he became a member of the State Ministry in Dessau (responsible for the military) and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd class with oak leaves and diamonds. In September 1863 he signed the military convention agreed with Prussia. Promoted to lieutenant general on January 24, 1865, he was awarded the star of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on September 23, 1865 after the maneuvers with the IV Army Corps . On October 27, 1867, he resigned from his service in Anhalt-Dessau, and on November 16, 1867, he was returned to the Prussian service as an officer with a pension and at disposition . On October 27, 1874, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Albrecht the Bear .

He died on November 16, 1889 in Dessau as an honorary senior of the Iron Cross 2nd class and an honorary citizen of the city.

family

Stockmarr married on October 18, 1824 in Zerbst Christiane Rosalie Filter (* 1801), a daughter of the physician Franz Ernst Filter (1768-1807) from Nordhausen. The couple had two children:
