Friedrich Wilhelm Stockmarr (born August 16, 1833 in Berlin , † October 8, 1923 in Dessau ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Friedrich Wilhelm was a son of Lieutenant General August Ludwig Stockmarr (1794-1889) and his wife Christiane Rosalie, née Filter (* 1801).

Military career

After attending grammar school in Dessau, Stockmarr joined the 2nd Infantry (King) Regiment of the Prussian Army as a three-year-old volunteer on October 1, 1850 and was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-July 1852 . From June 1854 to July 1857 he was a battalion adjutant, from October 1857 he completed the General War School for three years for further training and rose to Prime Lieutenant on September 19, 1860 . From December 1, 1860 to February 15, 1861 and from April 11 to April 21, 1861 Stockmarr was in command as deputy adjutant of the 3rd Division . In the meantime, at the end of February 1861, he was transferred to the 5th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 42 . From May 1, 1861 to April 30, 1864 he was assigned to the Trigonometric Department of the Great General Staff . On February 14, 1865, he was reassigned to the trigonometric department of the General Staff as surveying conductor. Left in this command, Stockmarr was transferred to the General Staff and assigned to the General Staff while at the same time being promoted to captain . During the German War he worked from May 22 to September 17, 1866 as a general staff officer at the General Command of the I. Reserve Army Corps.

After the war he was placed on February 16, 1867 in his position as surveying conductor à la suite of the General Staff of the Army and transferred to a regular main office for the ancillary budget of the General Staff. During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France Stockmarr came on July 18, 1870 to the General Staff of the 3rd Division and was promoted to major two days later . He took part in the Gravelotte and the Siege of Metz . During the siege of Paris he was badly wounded on the head near Champigny-Villiers by a shrapnel, which led to the loss of half his left ear.

Awarded with both classes of the Iron Cross , Stockmarr was returned to the General Staff on April 8, 1871 after the preliminary peace at Versailles and in the middle of the month he was commanded as surveyor for national triangulation. After two years with the General Staff of the 14th Division , he resigned on April 16, 1874 when he was appointed Commander of the 1st Battalion in the Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 . He rose there on July 3, 1875 to lieutenant colonel and on June 11, 1879 to colonel . On January 13, 1880 Stockmarr became the commander of the infantry regiment "Prince Friedrich of the Netherlands" (2nd Westphalian) No. 15 . After his departure, Stockmarr received the Grand Cross of the House Order of Albrecht the Bear on May 19, 1894, and Kaiser Wilhelm II honored him on March 22, 1897 by conferring the character of General of the Infantry. He died on October 8, 1923 in Dessau.
