August Oswalt

August Oswalt (born April 17, 1892 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 10, 1983 ) was a Hessian private banker and politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Oswalt did military and war service until 1920. He left the army with the rank of Rittmeister and began studying political science, which he completed with a doctorate in Munich. From 1922 he was active in youth and public education as well as in social work in Berlin. Most recently he was head of the Berlin seminar for social workers. After the National Socialists seized power , he worked as a bank employee from 1934. At the end of 1945 he became a general representative of the Georg Hauck & Sohn banking house . In 1946 after the death of Alexander Hauck , August Oswalt, like his nephew Michael Hauck and his mother Anne Marie Hauck, became personally liable partners in the Frankfurt private bank. In 1961 he left the bank.

politics

Since 1945 Oswalt was a member of the CDU. For his party he was a member of the district council of the Obertaunuskreis from spring 1946 to July 1948 . From August 5, 1946 (as a replacement for Werner Hilpert ) to November 30, 1946, he was a member of the state assembly of Greater Hesse and from December 1, 1946 to January 7, 1950, a member of the Hessian state parliament. In 1949 he was a member of the 1st Federal Assembly .

Other offices

Oswalt had also been doing voluntary work in social work since 1945. Among other things, he was chairman of the Central Office for Private Welfare eV, member of the board of the Frankfurt Red Cross and assessor in other associations and then chairman of a chamber in Frankfurt am Main.

Honors

In 1962 Oswalt was honored with the plaque of honor from the city of Frankfurt am Main . The August-Oswalt-Haus in Frankfurt is named after him.
