August Richardsen

August Richardsen (born November 29, 1873 in Kleiseerkoog , Tondern district , Schleswig-Holstein ; † March 24, 1957 in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld ) was a German agricultural scientist .

Life

August Richardsen, son of a marsh farmer , completed an agricultural training after passing his school leaving examination . After several years of practical work in this field, he turned to studying agricultural sciences at the universities of Jena and Leipzig, the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and finally the Bonn-Poppelsdorf Agricultural Academy, where he graduated as a qualified farmer. In 1902 he received his doctorate from the University of Jena. phil. After the examination as an animal breeding officer and as an agriculture teacher, he worked in the animal breeding department of the Chamber of Agriculture for the Province of Saxony in Halle (Saale) and as head of the agricultural school in Norden. On February 28, 1910 , he completed his habilitation in Poppelsdorf for the subject of agriculture and was appointed associate professor by the University of Jena on April 30, 1910 . Just four months later he followed the call to Poppelsdorf, accepted the offer as a full professor of agriculture and became head of the Institute for Animal Breeding and Dairy Production. He held this position until his illness-related retirement in 1929. He was then still active in specialist literature and died in 1957 at the age of 83 in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld.

August Richardsen, author of numerous magazine articles, was accepted as a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy for Forestry and Agriculture in Stockholm . He was a member of the Corps Agraria Bonn.
