August Wilhelm von Treskow (born March 24, 1720 in Mühlhausen in Thuringia , † March 26, 1797 in Bayreuth ) was a princely ansbach-Bayreuth lieutenant field marshal , later a Prussian lieutenant general and finally commander-in-chief of all troops in Ansbach-Bayreuth .

Life

His parents were the Prussian lieutenant colonel Johann Friedrich von Treskow (* 1685; † June 17, 1750) and his wife Christine Eleonore Margarethe, born von Graevenitz († April 28, 1739) from the Schilde family. His father was the heir to Neuendorf and Karritz in the Altmark.

Military career

Treskow went to Bayreuth in 1738 and was court marshal , senior thief and sergeant major in 1754 . During the Seven Years' War he was sent several times in 1757 as chamberlain of the margravine to her brother, the Prussian King Friedrich II . Treskow rose further in the military and in 1772 became major general and chief of the Franconian district regiment with a patent from August 23, 1763. In 1776 he was appointed lieutenant general of the cavalry and commander of the hussar corps, and in 1777 he was made field marshal-lieutenant and chief steward of Bayreuth. In 1790 he accompanied the Margrave Karl Alexander to Berlin to conduct the secret negotiations for the handover of Ansbach-Bayreuth to Prussia. In 1792 the land went to Prussia, and on January 29, 1792 Treskow was accepted into Prussian service as Lieutenant General of the Cavalry . He became a real officer in the army and general commander of all now Prussian troops in the principalities of Ansbach and Bayreuth . For this he received the Great Red Eagle Order on June 12, 1792 . He died on March 26, 1797 in Bayreuth and was buried on March 30, 1797 in Neudrossenfeld near Bayreuth.

Treskow married Anna Dorothea Friederike von Viereck († July 11, 1774), a daughter of Adam Otto von Viereck (1634-1717) and his second wife Anna Helena, born von Wolffersdorff (1651-1701). The couple had several children including:
