August von Conring (completely August Justus Adolph Otto von Conring ; born July 19, 1865 in Neustrelitz , † December 7, 1929 in Gabersee ) was a German painter and entomologist .

origin

His parents were the Mecklenburg captain Eduard (1823-1866) and his wife Ida, born von Reydeck (1843-1883). After the death of her husband, the widow married Friedrich von Chlingensperg auf Berg (1844–1909) in 1876 .

Live and act

From 1886 von Conring studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professors Nikolaos Gyzis , Ludwig von Löfftz and Karl Raupp, among others . From 1891 to 1901 von Conring offered works for sale at the annual exhibition in the Munich Glass Palace . He also exhibited at the Berlin art exhibitions from 1893 to 1898. After completing his studies, he lived in Munich for some time before moving to Isen towards the end of the First World War . Due to a war loan, the artist was impoverished after the war, which is why he often exchanged his pictures for natural produce and made portraits of the market residents.

The year of his death is often incorrectly given as 1920, although there are works of art by him that are autographed and dated after 1920. After the death of Conring's housekeeper Kunigunde Schuberth on April 2, 1929, his health deteriorated. Conring was admitted to the Gabersee District Hospital on October 26, 1929 , and died there on December 7, 1929. He was buried in the cemetery of St. Raphael's Church in Gabersee. In the entry concerning him in the death register, Isen is named as the last place of residence. Conring was the cousin of the Rostock poet Ida von Conring (1855–1928).
