Publishing program

Books and authors

Aula-Verlag has been based in Wiebelsheim in the Hunsrück since 1999

The Aula-Verlag mainly publishes biological books with a special focus on ornithology . Several renowned biologists and ornithologists publish at Aula, including Franz Bairlein , Hans-Heiner Bergmann , Peter Berthold , Einhard Bezzel , Dieter Glandt and Urs N. Glutz von Blotzheim . The 14-volume manual of the birds of Central Europe is the most comprehensive German-language standard work on the subject. There are also other standard works, such as The Compendium of Birds in Central Europe (3 volumes). The program covers all essential aspects of ornithology. In addition to books for determining birds, bird songs , feathers, -nestern and eggs there are also publications on the protection of birds , for example, on the construction of nesting boxes and bird feeders . The field of ornithology is rounded off with reprints of some works that have meanwhile advanced to become classics, such as Otto Kleinschmidt's Die Raubvögel der Heimat (first in 1934) or Alwin Voigt's excursion book on the study of bird voices (first in 1894). In zoology, there are two further extensive standard works, the 17-volume Handbuch der Reptilien und Amphibien Europa and the 13-volume Handbuch der Säugetiere Europa . In addition to more recent titles, for example about bats or turtles , there is also a classic with Karl Gößwald's monograph on The Wood Ant that combines forest biology, forest ecology and nature conservation. The biological program area is supplemented by titles in the fields of electrical engineering (by Gert Hagmann among others ) and literary studies ( New Handbook of Literary Studies , 25 volumes).

Periodicals

Der Falke , issue 4/2014

Two complementary ornithological magazines are published by Aula-Verlag. The falcon appears monthly (2013: 60th year) and is a special interest magazine aimed at a readership interested in nature and bird history. The bird world appears quarterly and is more scientifically oriented. It is the oldest German-language association-independent magazine for ornithologists (134th year 2013).
