The Ausseer Hardbradler were an Austrian music group of new folk music .

Band history

Beginnings

The band originally emerged from the Feedback Warriors crew , which was founded in 1991. At the beginning, the group tried its hand at crossover with dialect texts.

In 1993 the band was finally renamed Ausseer Hardbradler and re-founded. The first appearance under the new name was originally a Feedback Warriors concert. At that time the change of style to new folk music was announced. The reason for this change in genre was that Florian Randacher, the band leader, was a former member of the Alpine folk music formation Junge Ausseer Bradlmusi . At the end of the founding year, a demo with four songs was recorded and sent to record companies, promoters, music critics and radio stations.

A short time later the limited Rutting Season CD was sold out. This initial success secured the band's gigs for 1994 and they were able to achieve a greater degree of awareness outside of Styria. However, one was in crisis because the group's drummer left the band.

Increasing awareness

In the spring of 1994 the new drummer Alfred Drobinc joined the band with the keyboardist Franz Kreimer. The band wanted to cancel a gig by Florian Randacher because of a serious car accident, but a visit by a manager was planned, so the lead singer decided to sing for the band anyway. After the concert, they agreed on a contract with the record company EMI Music Austria. In the summer of 1994, the first recording sessions began in the recording studio of the guitarist of the band Opus , Ewald Pfleger. Andi Fabianek acted as the production manager. When the record company could be won over, they started looking for a producer. In addition, they played live for the first time live in front of a large audience at the Munich Festival Schütt dahoam . Eventually they came into contact with Peter Müller (producer of Da Hofa ), who decided to produce the band. In 1995 the first album was finished.

breakthrough

In the same year the band was played for the first time on Ö3 , the most popular radio station at the time. The first single Da Hirsch is auf da Pirsch could not be placed in the charts despite frequent radio play. In spite of everything, there followed a performance at the Vienna Danube Island Festival , which finally attracted 80,000 listeners. The second single Aufitretln and Abiwedln made it into the Ö3 Austria Top 40 a short time later . The associated LP Hardbradln also achieved gold status within a short time and sold 25,000 times in Austria. The first Austrian tour could also be completed.

In autumn 1996, new recordings were made for the next album. This time it was produced in Vienna under the direction of Wolfgang Czeland. The preliminary single Tanz'n tat i gern was released in spring 1997. The accompanying album Bradlfett was able to place in the Austrian top ten for the first time.

Commercial draft

In 1997 and 1998 single releases followed, but they could not repeat earlier successes. In 1999 the third album Bradl Air was released . This was highly regarded by the critics, but it only reached number 27 in the Austrian charts. In the following winter, a best-of program was played as part of the open-air tour. The last appearance in 2000 took place in the Orpheum in Graz. The time after that, the band members devoted themselves to their own projects such as solo programs.

Comeback and dissolution

In 2001 the single I bin a Schifoara was released, which became known through après-ski events. A corresponding album was planned, the time of the release was unknown. In 2002, during the Russian-Austrian Culture Weeks, records were sold internationally for the first time, but the long-term partner EMI Music was parted with. The song Just Another Day in da Sun am See was self-distributed. The recordings for the following CUBA long player were completed at the end of 2002. After long negotiations and the support of the Styrian cabaret artist Alf Poier , edel music signed the band.

In the summer of 2003, after almost 6 years, they were played on the radio again on Ö3. This came as a surprise at the time, as the station had not played any songs in the dialect for a long time. The single Hoamweh after BA found great approval in the audience, so that it came to number 5 in the Austrian single charts. The album CUBA then became the band's most commercially successful, with sales of around 30,000 units in Austria being awarded the Golden Record.

The last long player Volkpunk , which was released in 2004, could not quite repeat the success of its predecessor - despite the support of Ö3. The band broke up in 2004. The last official appearance took place in Altaussee. In 2005 a best-of CD was released, as well as a live album from the last Graz appearance.

style

The group name consists of the home region of the musicians, the Ausseerland ( Bad Aussee , Altaussee ) and an English-German new creation, which indicates that the roots, the "Ausseer Bradlmusi", serve as the basis of the crossover .

The band's musical style ranges from reggae to rock to hip-hop.

origin of the name

The word “Bradlmusi” comes from the “Bradlgeigern” who used to play a roast at the inn for entertainment.
