Austria 3 (short- A3 ) was an Austrian pop rock - band , and a so-called supergroup , as they had three successful also as soloists Members: Rain Fendrich , Wolfgang Ambros and Georg Danzer .

history

The name is an allusion to one of the first, cheapest and downright "feared" filterless cigarettes , which was produced by Austria Tabakwerke until the late 1970s, the Austria 3 (coll. "Dreier" ).

The group is the union initiated by Rainhard Fendrich in 1997 with the two Austrian songwriters Wolfgang Ambros and Georg Danzer , originally intended for a single benefit event for the homeless. The overwhelming success prompted the three artist friends to continue performing together until 2006, and joint live albums and compilations were created .

The band announced their upcoming separation on June 10, 2006. Their last concert took place on July 24, 2006 in Altusried , Swabia . Subsequently, Danzer developed lung cancer.

On April 16, 2007 the Freundeskreis met again at Georg Danzer's comeback concert in the Wiener Stadthalle to perform three of their old songs; Afterwards, several sides “thought out loud” about a possible 2008 revival .

In 2011, Rainhard Fendrich and Wolfgang Ambros thought about reunification, but a third party was needed because Georg Danzer died of lung cancer on June 21, 2007 . This led to a dispute between Fendrich and Ambros, as Klaus Eberhartinger proposed by Fendrich as the "third man".

On June 22, 2013 Wolfgang Ambros and Rainhard Fendrich performed seven songs by Austria 3 at the 30th Danube Island Festival .
