Avalos (noble family)
The noble family d'Avalos came from Spain, but came to Italy in the entourage of King Alfonso I and there gained power and prestige. It provided several governors of the Duchy of Milan and viceroys of Sicily . The family is also known for their many years of rule on the island of Ischia .
history
In 1397 Charles III transferred. of Navarre the manorial rule (señorio) over parts of the Kingdom of Navarre to Ruiz López Dávalos , who already had great influence and numerous possessions in the Kingdom of Castile . This laid the foundation for the later power of the family dynasty.
Iñigo I. de Ávalos († 1484) became Conte di Monteodorisio in 1452 ; Via his wife, Antonella d'Aquino , the margraviate of Pescara came to the d'Avalos in 1453 , who then called themselves d'Avalos d'Aquino . Her son Innico II († 1504) became 1st Marchese del Vasto . His son, Alfonso III, (1502-1546), took the name d'Avalos d'Aquino d'Aragona (after the royal family of Aragon ) because of his marriage to Maria d'Aragona from the house of the Dukes of Montalto . Ferrante Francesco (1531–1571) was Principe di Francavilla, Giovanni I († 1638) Principe di Montesarchio , his younger son Francesco Principe di Troia. Cesare Michelangelo d'Avalos (* 1667, † 1729), the 8th Marchese del Vasto and Marchese di Pescara, was made imperial prince in 1704 .
The members of the d'Avalos family remain one of the oldest noble families in the city of Naples, represented by the grandchildren of Princess Donna Maria Viggiani d'Avalos.
