Avinurme ( Avinurme vald ) was a rural community in Ida-Viru County in northeast Estonia .

The rural community had an area of 193.6 km². 1443 inhabitants lived in it (as of 2012).
The municipality got its name after the 48 km long Avijõgi River . The wood industry was the largest branch of the economy. Both elements are reproduced in the coat of arms of the rural municipality.
Villages
In addition to the main town Avinurme , the rural community included the villages of Adraku , Änniksaare , Alekere , Kaevussaare , Kiissa , Kõrve , Kõrvemetsa , Kõveriku , Laekannu , Lepiksaare , Maetsma , Paadenurme , Sälliksaare , Tammessaare , Ulvi and Vadi .
