Axel Wunsch (born October 20, 1941 in Kändler ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Axel Wunsch completed an apprenticeship as an industrial dyer from 1956 to 1958 and then worked as a yarn dyer until 1963. At the same time he attended the painting and drawing circle with Willy Wittig in Karl-Marx-Stadt . His artistic training took place in Leipzig from 1963 to 1968 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst under Wolfgang Mattheuer . Since then he has been working as a freelancer in Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz. Wish was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR since 1969 and is now also a member of other artistic associations, such as the Kunstverein Laterne Chemnitz, the Zwickauer Kunstverein and the Kunsthütte Chemnitz. Study trips took him 1973/1974 to Siberia, 1973 to 1975 to Hungary, 1975 to Irkutsk, 1977 Finland, 1979 FRG and Yugoslavia and 1983 to Mongolia, also to Bulgaria and Greece. From 1963 to 1990, Wunsch also worked as a teacher in the Karl-Marx-Städter Volkskunst drawing circle and has taught painting in the Zwickau remedial class since 2000. In 2004 he received the Ruth Leibniz Prize for Sculpture from the Neue Sächsische Galerie Chemnitz. Axel Wunsch works as a painter, draftsman, graphic artist and sculptor and works experimentally in a crossover of all mostly simple means available to him.
