Axis is an unincorporated community in Mobile County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

geography

Axis is located in southwest Alabama in the southern United States. It is located a few kilometers west of the river landscape of Mobile River , Middle River and Tensaw River , which flow together about 25 kilometers south into Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico .

Nearby places include Creola (1 km south), Satsuma (6 km south), Saraland (8 km southwest), Bucks (8 km north) and Movico (13 km north). The next larger city, with around 195,000 inhabitants, is Mobile, just under 10 kilometers to the south .

Axis is just off US Highway 43 , which runs 660 kilometers from southern Alabama to Tennessee . About 5 kilometers south of the town there is also a connection to Interstate 65 , which runs 1,436 kilometers from Alabama to Indiana . US Highway 45 also runs a few kilometers to the west .

The Mobile Regional Airport is located around 33 kilometers southwest of the town .

Demographics

The 2010 census showed a population of 757. 66.8% of the population were white, 26.9% black, 3.2% American Indian, 0.1% Asian and 0.1% Pacific islander. 0.1% were of a different ethnicity , 2.6% had two or more races, and 0.9% were Hispanics or Latin Americans of any ethnicity.
